Supporting the The Master of Research: Education and Society Programme

Research in practice

Core Unit 3

This unit will provide you with the practical and analytical skills needed to embark upon independent and collaborative research. It is assumed that you will already have a grounding in theory and methodology and the process of research design, and this unit will allow you to apply it to a real world research context. You will work in small groups through the process of research from generating research questions, deciding on a methodological approach, and selecting data collection and data analysis methods, to writing up, and dissemination. Throughout the unit, you will be expected to critically engage with the political and ethical implications of generating research knowledge and the ways in which theory informs practice as you develop research literacy.
